Bartending Accoutrements – Citrus Juicer

In Uncategorized on January 15, 2011 at 4:57 am

As I continue to explore the world of mixology/bartending/cocktails/drunkedness/etc. I’m finding a few lovely toys that make it all just that much more lovely.

And OMG, everyone needs a citrus juicer.

This is the one I have. A tad pricey, but the ease of which I now juice many a citrus fruit. Unbelievable. It even has a little strainer on it so you can squeeze your citrus right into your glass. Fresh is best!

I use it constantly. And now I’m miserably over my citrus-fruit budget for the month.

2011 Punch!

Give me any excuse to celebrate with alcohol and I’ll do it. But maybe you’re not as apt to celebrate as me (party pooper! ). Whatever.

Anyway, point is, you basically HAVE to celebrate on New Year’s Eve. Because I said so. And what better way to do it than with this punch I found at realsimple.com. They call it Tequila Grapefruit Splash. Whatevs, Grapefruit Splash, you’ll always be 2011 Punch to me.

BUT WAIT! Don’t make it like the recipe tells you to.

For those of you that don’t know, Campari is a very bitter liqueur that pairs nicely with the grapefruit in this case, but in my opinion the recipe calls for about twice too much of it. So I’d cut it in half if I were you. Or add about a cup of simple syrup to balance out the bitterness. Also, there are so many ingredients here that the quality of tequila doesn’t matter too much. BUT, you should use good grapefruit juice and of course I always recommend Simply Grapefruit.

Hope you all had a lovely New Year celebration. This drink was a hit at the party I went to. Two entire bowls were consumed, and a third probably would have been, too, had we had enough mixins.
